Disney and Google have partnered up to bring the Disney Movies Anywhere app to Android devices through Google Play.
The movie-curating app has been available in the iTunes store for iOS devices since February, but the new partnership allows more people access to more than 450 Disney titles, including entries from Pixar and Marvel.
When you create a Disney Movies Anywhere account, on the official website or through the mobile apps, you will have the ability to link your iTunes and Google Play to it, meaning any purchased movies will appear in both stores. Essentially, someone can begin watching a Disney movie on their Samsung Galaxy S5 and pick up where they left off on their iPad, which makes the DMA app one of the first to successfully pull off such cross-platform functionality.
In addition to gaining access to Disney’s extensive library of movies, users will also receive free, exclusive content in the form of original programming and new videos, all of which can be viewed offline via download.
The Google Play launch coincides with the digital and physical releases of “Maleficent” and “Planes: Fire and Rescue.” And as promotion for the move to Android devices, Disney is offering a free download of “Wreck-It Ralph” when users connect their iTunes or Google Play accounts.
The Disney Movies Anywhere app is currently available for download in iTunes and Google Play.
