Nike and LeBron James unveiled the new LeBron 12 sneakers during an in-depth presentation at the Nike Campus in Oregon on Tuesday.
Nike is using the tagline “Engineered for Explosiveness” to describe the new sneakers. After all, James’ game has always been predicated on supreme athleticism and physicality, so it’s only right.
The company emphasized that the design of the shoe was rooted in science and improving the overall performance of the athlete.
“This is Nike at its best: we take the insights from a world-class athlete in LeBron James to inform forward-thinking designs and create the most innovative shoes,” Kelly Hibler, Nike Basketball VP of Footwear, said in a news release. “We’ve combined the art and science of engineering in the LeBron 12 to advance the game of basketball’s best player.”
But let’s get back to “Engineered for Explosiveness.” What did Nike do to improve in this area?
Well, the company introduced five, hexagonal-shaped Nike Zoom Air bags in the outsole, which were strategically placed at the pressure points of the foot in order to facilitate natural movements and provide increased acceleration while on the court.
Nike also believes the Megafuse upper will make the shoe lighter than other LeBron models in the past, which will increase overall comfort and breathability. As for support, the company incorporated its popular Flywire technology to aid with sharp cuts and pivots and works in tandem with the Megafuse upper.
The shoe will initially have seven distinct colorways, all of which are inspired by elements of James’ game. The first colorway, the LeBron 12 “NSRL,” (pictured below) will hit stores globally on Oct. 11 and embodies the combination of design and advanced data, according to Nike.
The remaining colorways and release dates are as follows:
- Oct. 30-LeBron 12 “Heart of a Lion”
- Nov. 11-LeBron 12 “Dunk Force”
- Nov.22-LeBron 12 “Instinct”
- Nov. 29-LeBron 12 “Six Meridians”
- Dec. 1.-LeBron 12 “Trillion Dollar Man”
- Dec. 20-LeBron 12 “Data”
All iterations will be released in kids and adult sizes at select Nike retail stores and Nike.com, so be on the look out if you’re interested. As promised, check out some more photos below.
