The collapse of the U.S. housing market created a financial crisis that impacted financial institutions across the world. But there was a handful of savvy individuals who managed to profit during the period of economic uncertainty, and their story is headed to the big screen.

Paramount Pictures released the official trailer for “The Big Short” Tuesday (Sept. 22), providing the first look at the all-star cast – Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling – in action.

The film, based on the book by Michael Lewis (“The Blind Side,” Moneyball”), tells the true story of how a group of investors foresaw the impending financial crisis and bet against the big banks, resulting in a jackpot as the economy crumbled around them.

Adam McKay (“Anchorman,” “Step Brothers”) wrote and directed the film, with Pitt also serving as a producer.

“The Big Short” is slated to arrive in theaters on Christmas Day. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comment section.
