J. Cole confirmed on Twitter Sunday night that his third album, “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” is slated to drop on Dec. 9.
The album, which is titled after the address of his childhood home in Fayetteville, N.C., will feature 13 tracks. However, the track titles and any possible features currently unknown.
In addition to the album announcement, Cole released a seven-minute video with the following description:
“What up? My New Album is finished. It’s called 2014 Forest Hills Drive and it’s very special to me. It’s available everywhere on 12/9. This time I’m releasing no singles, just the album. See you in 3 weeks. Thank you for the love and support.”
The short documentary shows the MC returning to his old stomping grounds, including his high school, where he participated in his first cypher, and the nearby skating rink. Cole also mentions that he came to the realization that his happiness is linked to the people who love and support him and not rooted in the success of his career.
The Dec. 9 release date is the same day Lil Wayne plans to drop “Tha Carter V” album, but whether or not that was a conscious decision or merely a coincidence is unknown. However, it wouldn’t be the first time for Cole, as he released his sophomore project, “Born Sinner,” on the same day as Kanye West’s “Yeezus.”
The album is available for pre-order on iTunes, but first check out the video below.
