Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) final showdown with his allies-turned-enemies provided an emphatic and action-packed conclusion to the critically-acclaimed “Breaking Bad” series in 2013.
But could it have been pulled off in real life?
Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage have been answering such questions on Discovery’s “MythBusters” since 2003, and the duo put White’s last act to the test. They even brought out “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan to join the fun.
If you recall, in the finale, White equipped the trunk of his car with an M60 machine gun and placed the vehicle in front of Uncle Jack’s hideout. When the time was right, White pressed a button and unleashed a barrage of gunfire that eliminated Jack and his crew, and he was able to escape unscathed.
The “MythBusters” duo constructed a similar setup to test if such a weapon would be effective in penetrating the exterior of a house and taking out the desired targets.
The results? It turns out that the final scene was realistic, as the machine gun was able to mow down its targets without hitting what would have been White, who took cover on the floor.
“I am happy that I believe we can finally call a ‘Breaking Bad’ test plausible instead of busted,” Savage said in the clip, referring to two previous “myths” of the show that were busted.
“We finally got one,” Gilligan said in celebration. “One out of three – that’s good in baseball.”
